Pig Services

Our team of pig vets are able to draw on their extensive experience of many production systems within the UK and the wider international industry.

We provide a variety of services to our clients and all our vets are involved directly on farm with commercial farm businesses. We are also involved in workshop and on farm training of stockmen and managers, with all our training being delivered by our knowledgable veterinary team who are all Train the Trainer approved tutors. Our research involvement allows both our industrial clients and farm clients to benefit from the extensive knowledge transfer between the latest findings for the industry and the front line for the commercial pig farms of the UK.

Check out the services below for further details on some of the ways our Pig Team can get involved in your business, from routine quarterly consultancy visits through to training and research programmes. If you are a commercial pig farmer who would like to benefit from our approach, experience and practical advice, please contact us for an informal discussion.

Herd Health Schemes
We actively encourage our clients to practise a proactive herd health approach on their farms to gain the best production from their pigs. As part of that, we have set up a herd health scheme for our clients where veterinary input costs are spread more evenly throughout the year. This allows our clients to have a more predictable cashflow for their business.

Our Herd Health Scheme is tailored to your farm business and can include various levels of veterinary input, dispensary costs, medicine deliveries and analysis of your data. Telephone and email advice is included along with certain visits, allowing our clients to be assured that they have veterinary advice available when they need it.

If you would like to find out more about how our scheme could benefit your business, please get in touch and speak to one of our pig veterinary team.
Consultancy
Along with providing a full consultancy service to our regular clients, our pig veterinary team are available to provide consultancy to the wider industry on a one off basis or as a second opinion. We currently provide these services to farms in the UK and clients abroad.

Our team of pig vets has extensive experience of a wide range of production systems and this allows them to provide a fresh set of eyes that can often bring new life to a business, or provide advice on how health and production parameters could be improved on farm. We are open to prospective clients contacting us to discuss any proposals on an informal basis – get in touch and speak to one of the Pig Team.
Research and Development

We are passionate about the future of the livestock industry, and believe that vets have a key role in the future health and productivity of the farming industry.

The pig veterinary team at Bishopton have been heavily involved in both primary science and clinical research for a number of years, taking part in many collaborations between both Universities, industrial partners and clinicians in the field.

In 2010 we launched RAFT Solutions Ltd to provide a dedicated company and focus on the growing number of research projects we were becoming involved in. This allows us to provide national co-ordination to many of our projects, allowing us a far wider approach to the industry with a greater applicability to the farming community as a whole and the opportunity to help bridge the gap between emerging research findings and practical ‘on the ground’ application.

We cover a wide variety of different areas, including those involved around the concepts of:

  • Research – clinical research and field trials, carried out accurately and efficiently to budget
  • Advanced Breeding – ranging from cattle embryo transfer work through to pig genomics and proteomics
  • Food Futures – working with government agencies, among others, to shape the future of food in the UK
  • Training – developing key skills within the farming community to improve animal health and welfare

We have experience of many different projects, including managing large scale multidisciplinary grant applications and budgets, and are always interested in discussing future partnerships to gain the best for the industry. Please check out our dedicated RAFT website for further information and contact details.
